EVERYONE HAS A STORY. IT’S THEIR THREAD. EVERYONE’S THREAD CONTRIBUTES TO GOD’S BIGGER PICTURE….

Gideon’s thread

Although known at CHLC for his warmth and joyful attitude, Gideon has a story that begins in his home country, South Sudan, and includes both struggle and hope. We invite you to stop, listen, and learn about how this thread has added to the tapestry that is Capitol Hill and God’s love for the world.

Kathy’s thread

Kathy has been a Lutheran her entire life and discovered her passion for sacred vocal music at an early age. When her identity and truth put her at odds with others, she recognized her own need to step away from the church and music. Despite everything, she stayed true to her relationship with God. After a time, through the encouragement of others, the work of the Holy Spirit, and her own resiliency, Kathy has made her way back to CHLC and has rediscovered and reclaimed her voice, which she uses to sing praises and proclaim the importance of loving all of God's children.

Deacon Heidi’s Thread

Deacon Heidi found her thread at Capitol Hill in February of 2020 after years of claiming she would never take a call in a parish setting. The year was anything but what she expected between Covid and receiving news that her young daughter had a life-limiting disease. In the midst of this turmoil and change, Deacon Heidi found support, hope and love for her and her family as they began to weave their own threads into the CHLC Tapestry.

Ingrid’s Thread

Ingrid joined CHLC, then First Lutheran Church, when she and her husband, Rudi, along with their 3 month old daughter emigrated from post-World War II Germany. As a child, her parents never shared their anti-Nazi leanings to protect her and them. Their bravery and love helped her to live a relatively normal life that led her to Iowa and CHLC.

Rachel’s Thread

Faith and a desire to help others have always been important aspects of Rachel's life. When a career in nursing and nursing education led her to Des Moines, Rachel found her thread wove in beautifully with the tapestry that is Capitol Hill.
